Cookie Policy
Last updated: August 23, 1970
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies Fortis Communications Inc (“Fortis”) uses on fortis-tele.com, why we use them, and how you can control them. It is a companion to our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal information generally.
What cookies are #
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies let a site recognize your browser between page loads or visits — for example, to keep you signed in, remember your consent choices, or count how many distinct visitors a page received. Some cookies are set by the site you are visiting (first-party); others are set by services embedded on the site (third-party). Beyond cookies, sites can use similar technologies such as localStorage, sessionStorage, and pixels — we treat these the same way as cookies in this policy and in our consent banner.
How we categorize cookies #
Following the categories required by the EU ePrivacy Directive, the GDPR, and PIPEDA, we group every cookie into one of four types:
- Functional — strictly necessary for the site to work, including security and consent state. Loaded without consent.
- Statistics — anonymous, aggregate usage data so we can understand which pages are useful. Loaded only with your consent.
- Marketing — cross-site tracking used to personalize advertising. We do not use any marketing cookies on fortis-tele.com.
- Preferences — remember non-essential choices such as display preferences. We currently use none.
Functional cookies we set #
These cookies load automatically because fortis-tele.com cannot operate securely without them.
- Cloudflare bot-protection (
__cf_bm,cf_clearance) — Cloudflare sits in front of fortis-tele.com and uses these cookies to distinguish legitimate browsers from automated bots. Without them, security challenges (including Cloudflare Turnstile, which we use on contact forms) cannot complete. Duration: up to 30 days. - Complianz consent state (
complianz_consent_status,complianz_policy_id) — record whether you have given, declined, or revoked consent for non-essential cookies, and which version of our policies you saw. Without these we would have to ask you on every page load. Duration: up to 365 days. - WordPress session cookies (
wordpress_*,wp-settings-*) — set only if you sign in to the administrative area of the site. Duration: session or up to one year for admin preferences.
Statistics cookies (consent required) #
We use Google Analytics 4 (“GA4”), loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how visitors find and use fortis-tele.com. Statistics cookies load only after you accept them in our consent banner. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics events are sent.
- Google Tag Manager (
_gtm-related) — the tag-management container that loads GA4. Duration: session. - Google Analytics (
_ga,_ga_*) — assign a randomized client identifier so GA4 can distinguish new visits from returning ones. We have enabled IP-truncation and have not enabled Google Signals or cross-site advertising features, so GA4 cannot use this data for ad targeting on our site. Duration: up to 24 months.
Google processes this data on our behalf under the Google Ads Data Processing Terms. Aggregated reports may be accessible to Google employees who maintain the analytics service. Approximate visitor location (city level, derived from IP) is included in GA4 reports.
Third-party cookies and embedded services #
Beyond Cloudflare and Google Analytics, fortis-tele.com does not embed third-party services that set cookies. We do not load social media widgets, advertising pixels, customer-data platforms, or session-replay tools on the marketing site.
How to give, change, or withdraw consent #
The first time you visit fortis-tele.com from a new browser you will see our consent banner. You can accept all categories, accept only required cookies, or open the preferences panel and toggle each category individually. Your choice is stored in the functional consent cookie described above. You can revisit and change your choice at any time by clicking the consent-management link in the footer of any page on the site. Withdrawing consent applies to future visits only; it does not delete data already collected, though you can request deletion through the Privacy Policy rights process.
Browser controls #
You can also control cookies at the browser level. Every major browser lets you block all cookies, block third-party cookies, prompt before each cookie, or clear cookies on exit. Blocking strictly-necessary cookies will likely break parts of fortis-tele.com — for example, the consent banner cannot remember your choices, so it reappears on every page. We honour the Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) signal: if your browser sends a GPC header, we treat that as a refusal of statistics consent regardless of any prior banner choice.
“Do Not Track” #
Most browsers no longer ship a meaningful Do Not Track signal, and the standard was never finalized. We do not respond to legacy DNT headers; we honour GPC, described above, which has replaced DNT in practice.
Cookie scan #
The cookie inventory in this policy is verified periodically by our consent platform’s automated scanner. If a scan detects a new cookie we have not disclosed here, the consent banner is reset for all visitors so we can collect fresh consent before that cookie is set.
Updates to this policy #
We may update this Cookie Policy if we add, remove, or change a cookie. When we do, we revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes also reset the consent banner so you can review and re-confirm your choices before any new cookie is set.
