Overview
Do Not Disturb (DND) silences inbound calls to your extension when you need to focus or avoid interruptions. While DND is on, your IP phone won’t ring; incoming calls are routed to voicemail (or to whatever you’ve configured), and the system rejects new SIP attempts with status 486 Busy Here.
DND is useful when you’re in a meeting, deep in focused work, or simply unavailable.
Activating DND from the Web Portal
- Sign in at https://pbx.fortis-tele.com:8887.
- On the Dashboard or under Profile, find the Do Not Disturb toggle.
- Switch it on. A DND Active indicator appears.
That’s it — your phone will no longer ring for incoming calls.
Deactivating DND
- Open the Do Not Disturb section again.
- Switch the toggle off. The indicator returns to DND Off.
Activating DND from Your IP Phone (FAC)
You don’t need to log in to the portal — you can flip DND from any registered device using a Feature Access Code:
| Code | Action |
|---|---|
*78 | Activate DND |
*79 | Deactivate DND |
You’ll hear a short audio confirmation each time.
Note: Star codes are tenant-configurable. The codes above are the VeloPBX defaults; if they don’t work on your system, ask your admin or email [email protected].
What Happens to Incoming Calls
| Situation | Result |
|---|---|
| Caller dials your extension while DND is on | Phone does not ring; call is rejected with SIP 486 Busy |
| You also have Always Forward enabled | Always Forward wins — the call goes to your forward destination |
| You have Voicemail enabled | Caller is sent to voicemail and can leave a message |
| Neither forwarding nor voicemail is set | Caller hears a busy / unavailable response |
DND Indicators
When DND is on, others in your tenant can see it too:
- The Web Portal user list shows a block icon next to your extension.
- IP phones with Busy Lamp Field (BLF) keys monitoring your extension display a DND indication.
This makes it easier for colleagues to know not to call you for non-urgent matters.
Tips
- Pair DND with voicemail so callers can still leave a message — otherwise they just hear “busy.”
- DND is not the same as logging out. Your extension is still registered; it just isn’t ringing. Push notifications to mobile clients are also suppressed.
- Remember to switch DND off when you’re available again — it does not auto-expire.
